DESIGN FOR REASSEMBLY

There are numerous ways to think about sustainability. From ethical sourcing of raw materials to improved working facilities for employees, ESG is no longer invisible. One of the big steps in large scale manufacturing centers on circularity.

Read about how Joe Iles of the Ellen Macarthur Foundation sums up today’s challenge.

NEVERENDING STORY

Our Accordian Product Process centers consumer behavior in the design, development and distribution of product with the idea that the initial end of use doesn't end the life of the product. In order to deliver a circular life cycle there must be an infrastructure that allows for these new products and these new products have to understand that infrastructure.

The chicken and the egg.

This process requires the creation process and the reassembly process to be built simultaneously with a focus on these key tenets.

SOURCING

We must consider the beginning and end state of all of the materials used in the process of creation.

ASsEMBLY

We must consider 1) Assembly, 2) Disassembly and 3) Reassembly when creating product and processes.

Distribution

Localizing as many steps in each process allows for seamless action and education.

EDUCATION

Every step in the process will be made better by an understanding of the other processes in the life cycle.

SCALE

When multiple brands, factories and distributors value this process infrastructure becomes municipal.

SHARING

Big steps made together will be important to become truly circular so let’s grow together.

a behavioral shift

The next generation of consumers isn’t as worried about shiny, new objects. The rise of vintage shopping and gig working has produced a healthy respect for the planet and the people who live on it now and in the future. We now need a comprehensive shift in how we allow them to participate for the long haul.
